We be happy when the war heroes kill Prabhakaran and bring his head - SB

Nov 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) National Organizer S.B. Dissanayake says that he is ready to give the credit of defeating terrorism to the President, the Defense Secretary and the security forces.

He said that the country should be happy when the war heroes kill Prabhakaran and bring his head.

The former Samurdhi and Agriculture minister in the UNP government expressed these views at a meeting held in Kadugannawa. He has confirmed that he would contest for the Central Provincial Council election as the Chief Minister candidate.

Dissanayake says that UNP will achieve 60% minority votes and will win future elections.

It is the beginning of the end of LTTE terrorists – Defence Secretary

Speaking about the ongoing humanitarian mission to liberate the masses of North from the tyranny of LTTE terrorists, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the Government has reached the final stage of the war against LTTE terrorism.

Airing his views to the BBC World Service, the Defence Secretary said that the troops are only 4.5 kms away from the LTTE heartland, Kilinochchi. A confident Defence Secretary said that the continuous and historic victories of the Security Forces will soon bring an end to the war signifying a landmark in the history of the country's three decade long crisis. Clarifying the Government's position which led the INGOs and NGOs to request to vacate from the LTTE held areas in Kilinochchi, the Defence Secretary said the Government did not want to risk the lives of any relief activists as the troops are advancing into enemy territory and because there is fierce fighting in the battle front. He said that terrorism has been a menace to the civilians of Sri Lanka irrespective of race, religion or ethnicity.

Night time air raid on high profile Tiger den in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets launched a nighttime air raid last night around 8 p.m. targeting a high profile Tiger den in Kilinochchi, the military said.
Air Force Spokesman, Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said the well guarded hideout of LTTE leaders located in the Piramantalkulm area of the Kilinochchi district was destroyed by the air attack.

Damages to the target is yet to be assessed, according to the Spokesman.

Manel Mal Movement implements "Jayodaya Ranagosha"

The Manel Mal Movement implemented a successful project "Jayodaya Ranagosha" on 30th August 2008, to motivate the people of this country to assist the security forces personnel in the battle front. Many were those who contributed items to be gifted to the soldiers in the front lines during this project. The items thus collected were taken to Vavuniya on 20th September 2008 and handed over to the Security Forces deployed in the front lines, an official of MMM said.

Manel Mal Movement also collected dry rations for the innocent Tamil people who are now escaping from the clutches of the despot Prabhakaran and making their way to the government controlled areas. These dry rations were handed over to the Civil Affairs Officer of the 21 Brigade at Cheddikulam for distributing among these innocent Tamil civilians. Further, it made an assessment of the future requirements for the innocent Tamils now steadily making their way into government controlled areas from un-liberated areas, where the Security Forces are engaging in a humanitarian operation against LTTE terrorism, an official of MMM added.

IGP ordered to arrest Mervyn

The judiciary in Sri Lanka has ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest a controversial minister in suspicion of assaulting journalists. Colombo additional magistrate Manjula Thilakaratne ordered Head Quarters Inspector (HQI) of Peliyagoda police station to personally hand over the order to IGP Jayantha Wickramaratne.

The judiciary made the order after police informed that four suspects including Labour Minister Dr. Mervyn Silva are evading police arrest.

Chairman of Kelaniya Pradesheeya Sabha Prasanna Ranaweera, and Minister Silva s supporters: Nihal Silva and Sandun Asiri were named by the police as other suspects.

LTTE deserters asked to surrender

The announcement was made via LTTE's official radio station 'Voice of Tigers'. According to the announcement. deserters were asked to report to LTTE's political headquarters by the 20th August.
